4 Ways To Lead Yourself First and Influence Others


Believe In Yourself

If you don’t believe in yourself, you can’t lead yourself.  If you can’t lead yourself, you can’t lead others.

Believe you can make a difference. Believe you bring value every day.  Your title or position don’t matter.  Your character and integrity do.  Character and integrity influence. Character and integrity lead.

Work on being a person of character and integrity.

Have a positive attitude.  Make positive choices.  Have a dream, desire and focus.

Resist negative people.  Don’t listen.  Know you have something to contribute.

You do.  Everyone does.

Think Long-Term

We live in a society and culture that wants and expects instant gratification.   A short-term perspective is commonplace.  Don’t fall for it.  Think long term.

Have the discipline and character to delay instant gratification.  Adjust your behaviors and reach for long-term goals.  Urgent is the enemy.  Urgent reacts.  Urgent panics.

Resist urgent, short-term thinking and results.  Focus long-term in every area of your life.  True character delays short-term gratification.  It knows the wait is worth it.

Recognize Your Worth and Potential

The key is to affirm people’s worth and potential so clearly they are inspired to see it in themselves,  Stephen R. Covey.

See the worth and potential in yourself.  It’s there.

Build Trust

Transparency builds trust. Trust is the key.  Trust is the backbone and foundation of leading others.

Earn it.
Be willing to let people tell you you are wrong.
Honesty leads to transparency, transparency leads to trust.
Build trust.  Build more trust.  Keep building trust.
It’s time to lead.  Start with yourself.  Then influence others.
